About me…
I’m an ex-banker, new full-time culinary student, mom of two, master of PowerPoint, aficionado of bubbly water, and a preppy holdout in my hipster neighbourhood. I’ve traveled to 40 countries and slept in Mongolian gers, ultra luxury villas and cockroach infested hostels. Family, food and travel are what I’m passionate about. That’s me in three sentences. But you’re here for the food…delicious, mouth-watering food.
Once upon a time I took genuine, personal satisfaction from creating a well written policy document at the big bank I worked at. That’s true, and yes, I realize it’s crazy. But being home for the past two years with my kids, as moms everywhere know, my world is much more real…very often too real. Queue your mental image of domestic mayhem and that’s my house too.
Ahhhh, but cooking. Where a teaspoon of extra effort can take you from mediocre to superlative. It’s something that needs to happen almost every day. And the results are immediate, tangible and edible. A better thing to draw my “job” satisfaction from? I think so. So, cooking is where my focus is now and I invite you to come on the trip with me.
About my blog…
Swine and Wine captures some of the highlights from my quest to cook and bake my heart out! What you will find on this site are recipes that I have created or researched, tried and often adapted and simplified. These are recipes that have been tested by my family and friends. I am hoping that my recipes will get others cooking real food and sitting down for family meal time which is the most important part of the day in our home.
About the inspiration for my blog…
Food inspiration is everywhere – from the internet, to glossy magazines, to grocery stores and markets. For this blog, I often find myself inspired and challenged by fellow (often Canadian) bloggers. Most notably:
- Dennis The Prescott – for the extraordinary food photography
- The Minimalist Baker – for the simplicity of the recipes
- Lace and Braids – (Yes! A fashion blog) for its clean aesthetic
“Cooking is like love, it should be entered into with abandon or not at all.”
